If you don't know what a MMSI number is, there is a good tutorial here:
Can You Hear Me?
Last year I put together a roster of boaters who wanted their numbers on
this list. If there are any others who want to be on here, shoot me a
bmail or email: mike@averys.net and I'll add it. If your number
is on here and don't want it here, just let me know and I'll delete it.

I've also established a group hail MMSI #: 033-801-882
The idea of a group hail is for everyone who inputs that number as a
group number in their DSC radio will get the hail. It's a good way to
see who is out fishing rather than hail each member separately one at a
time. This is a good way to let people know of a good bite somewhere but
don't want to announce it on 68. Keep in mind, hailing someone or a
group on DSC means only that person or group gets the hail but you are
still talking on an open channel but at least it's a channel you picked
and only those hailed know what channel your switching too.
Print out this roster, take it to your boat, and input everyone into
your radio (don't forget the group hail). I have used it successfully in
the past to bring someone over to a good bite without announcing my
position. If your DSC has position polling/request capability and you
have it tied into your chartplotter, you can send your position
digitally without even having to say anything over the radio and your
position will show up on your buddy's chartplotter. I often turn off 68
but my DSC is always listening. |
