| Saturday - 8 Dec 07 Fished with just me
and my son, Michael Jr. just north of the concrete ships in Kiptopeke.
Tough getting him out fishing anymore but when we catch fish he loves
it. Decide to drift with eels, 2 on floats, one with 3 ounces of
inline weight and one free line. Decided we were going to
release any fish caught so used circle hooks. Had a hookup on the
3 ounce but became unglued. Next hit came on the same rod and
Michael cranks in a nice 38 incher. He had to get back early to
meet a friend so didn't stay for the tide change over.

Sunday, 9 Dec 07.
Was going to go out with Lanie, Michael Jr. and one of his friends
but Lanie needed to study more for a nursing test on Monday and Jr.
wimped out. Too late to get a crew so I went solo. Setup off old
plantation light in deep water and put out the same spread as Saturday.
First test my picture taking abilities solo using the timer on the
camera sitting on the seat.

OK, now lets try to get a fish there. First hit was nice fish
around 40 inches but the net man let me down (which was me). I
placed the net out of reach (dumb move) so I thought I could lip him.
As soon as I grabbed the leader, the hook pulls and he was gone.
Solo lesson learned....move the net next to the rod going off.
Next hit was on a floater down about 30 feet. This time
everything goes to plan, net the fish, measure (36 inches), quick pic,
then good release, swims away strong.
Next hit was on a floater about 20 feet down. This one gives a
better fight and it takes a few tries with the net but I get him and
measured 40 inches. Got another hit but no hookup. That was
it for the day.

Saw Dawgonit and crew fishing besides me. They got a hog at 45
inches.

Also saw the Jil Carrie trolling by and they seemed to have no
trouble hooking up.
Beautiful weekend, perfect weather. Got pretty crowded out
there but from what I saw everyone was pretty courteous despite so many
drifters mixed in with so many trollers. Think my striper fishing
is going to be in the ocean now so I don't have to mess with these
stupid regs of 1 fish in the bay. |
