On Saturday, we participated in the Wish-A-Fish program, a charity event to let children with special needs go fishing on a boat. Another Captain was without a mate so we donated Michael Jr. to mate for him. He did a great job. We had a great family, Patrick, Hunter, and James and parents Dave and Tricia. Tried to find some croaker in the Elizabeth River but no fish so we moved over to the Hampton side of the HRBT since it was so bumpy. There we found some small sea bass and croaker. It was fun trying to teach them patience as they wanted to crank the reel in as soon as we got the bait down. All of the families got a free fishing pole to encourage the kids to keep fishing. It’s for sure a worthwhile cause.
On Sunday I had been promising Lanie a cobia so we set out to the CBBT Inner Middle Ground to make an attempt. Persistence paid off and Lanie got one, a 32 inch cobia. But they have to be at least 37 to keep so back he went. Sunday was a beautiful day on the water.
