Headed out to the 50 fathom curve (300 feet) to see what we can find. Crew was me, son Michael Jr., Tom Kidwell, and Greg Allen. The bay was like glass in the morning but got some rollers and chop around the Chesapeake Light Tower but pressed on.  Once we got to 50 fathoms, it was beautiful day. Didn't take long to shed the cold weather gear. Had squid, bluefish, and mullet for bait. Hit about 5 different spots. Most of the day it was like this, dog, dog, dog, double dog, dog, triple dog, dog, oh a seabass, dog, dog, double dog, double dog, dog, oh cool a tile, dog, dog, double dog, double dog, seabass, tile, dog, dog, dog......ok you get the idea. The dogfish (sharks) were everywhere. I think our areas had good populations of seabass and tile but the dogs would get to your bait first. Them critters are so greedy, 4 or 5 of them would follow up there hooked brothers all the way from 50 fathoms.

We did manage a nice mess of tiles and seabass which will make dang good groceries for supper. Ride back was pleasant with some inshore chop.

Here is a short video report from the day.
Who Let the Dogs Out Video.

Here are some pics from the day. My son, Michael Jr. with a double seabass. He caught the most bass today.

A nice 12 lb tile for me.

Biggest tile of the day goes to Greg at 14 lbs.

Nice 12 lb tile for Tom.

A double for Greg.

A nice bass for Greg. None of the bass made 5 lbs but almost.

A seabass for Tom.

Tom shows us why they are called spiny dogfish. Got him good in the right arm. Later he demonstrates it again but in his left arm. Double ouch.

Beautiful day on the water for sure. Looking forward to spring with warm sunny skies.
