Tired of striper, we made the run to the deep with my
son Michael Jr. Dr. Ike, Wes, and Lake. Ran to the tile grounds about 17
miles south of the Norfolk Canyon at 47 fathoms. SW winds blowing 10
knots produced some chop but overall it was a nice ride out and slick
calm on the way back in.
As soon as we dropped lines in, hooked up. And we stayed hooked up all
day. One fish after another. Problem was it was about 15 dogs to every
keeper fish. Ike won the prize for the most dogs most of the time
bringing up 2 dogs big dogs at once. We tried different drifts and
different places but we never found any area that was free of dogs. We
even ran to a potential grouper hole at 475 feet but Wes cranks up
triple big dogs. Tried squid, bluefish, mackeral, kitchen sponges, and
butterfish all the same results.
Whole lot of work but we did manage to bring home a lot of meat. We
thought we might have 2 citations tiles but they came in the weigh
station just under 10 lbs. Some of the seabass went 4 lbs. Beautiful day
for a long run.
Here are a few pics from the day.
